With the most important game of the season looming, Confidential has a question. How come in the Lennie Lawrence days ( incidentaly Reg, that guy has never been given the RECOGNITION HE DESERVES for saving our club ), when we had NO GROUND, he and the team were able to get us promoted to the First Division (i.e the Premiereship). I repeat, we were heading nowhere fast. We had to rent-a-pitch for our games for goodness sakes. We were penniless. We didn't have a pot to piss in, but we played games wherever we could and got the points and got promotion to the top table elite.
Imagine the situation today if we had no stadium and had to rent somewhere .Well we haven't. We've got a fantastic stadium, the best in South London, The Valley. We've got no excuses either.

The man is a true legend, a plaudit often over-used in these days of hype, but nonetheless in this case it's fully justified. (Admittedly things came to a sad end when he went to negotiate the permanent transfer of a loanee, and ended up transferring himself to Middlesbrough and the player stayed on with him.) He certainly never got the credit he deserved for assembling a fine team on the cheap and then staying for four years in Div One in challenging circumstances (not to mention miserable surroundings). A great man, indeed he was.
Lennie was indeed a legend, although I remember being glad when he moved on when he did.
I always thought we should name the stands after old heroes. The club forgets that the 'South Stand' is actually The Jimmy Seed. And we have the Sam Bartram entrance but what about the following:
The Derek Ufton Stand
The Killer End
the Keith Peacock Stand
The Lennie Lawrence Quadrant.
Good call Rick. Lennie was a great manager for us and a true gentleman.
Lennie the Legend along with Curbishley the best two managers in my 40 years of supporting Charlton
I wouldn't say the England game was THAT important Rick!
No.. you're right Sam. What was I thinking of ?
Is it April 1st or is the article on Charlton Life entitled "Charlton plan presentation of thanks to Crystal Palace", true - surely not!!
I think it's Bartram having a laugh
